Do Hard Things

We just gave our oldest son the new book Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris. The Harris brothers have started what they call “A Rebelution”. The Rebelution encourages young people to rebel against low expectations, and to be willing to do hard things for God.

As I was pre-reading the book, to see how suitable it would be for our son, I found the Lord challenging me, as well. Am I still willing to do hard things for God?

This was a message I would have gladly latched on to as a young person. It is a message that I am confident will be a challenge and an encouragement to our son. But in many ways, it is a message that I need to hear as much as he does.

I am content to serve the Lord right here, in my own safe sphere. But what if He has something more for me to do? What if that something takes me out of my comfort zone?

The Lord used this book to remind me that He is pleased to use ordinary people, who step out in faith, to accomplish great things. So what if we fail when we try to do hard things for God? Isn’t that better than not trying them at all? And if we don’t try, how will we ever know what He could have accomplished in us and through us?

  1. I just read a quote recently that said something like…

First I asked God to help me.
Then I asked Him how I could help Him.
Now I ask Him to do His work through me.

    I loved it.
